The Leelanau County Road Commission, located in Suttons Bay Michigan, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Manager or Engineer-Manager. Under the direction of the Board of County Road Commissioners, this position is responsible for overseeing and supporting the Road Commission staff; delegate tasks and responsibilities as needed; meet deadlines and directives in a timely manner and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ideal candidate must have project planning and development ability, understanding of human resource management, union labor relations, contract negotiation, fiscal management and budget control. Knowledge of road construction is a plus. Knowledge of Michigan Transportation Funding, understanding of local, state and federal highway financing is a plus.
A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or public/business administration is preferred but not required. At least four years of public works/transportation experience with extensive managerial experience in the public sector is also preferred. Must possess basic computer skills and possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.

The Leelanau County Road Commission has jurisdiction over 597 miles of primary and county roads within 11 Townships and maintenance responsibilities for 209 lane Miles of State Highway under a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The Leelanau County Road Commission typically meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are at 1:00 pm and public comments are accepted at the beginning and end of every regular meeting. Members of the public are always welcome and encouraged to attend. If you’d prefer to attend a regular meeting commission to offer your comments, there is a public comment session at the beginning and end of every meeting. To present handouts or other printed material for board review, please submit them to the Board Secretary the Thursday prior to the meeting for inclusion in board member packets.

6:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday, closed Fridays starting first full week in May through mid-August.

These maps certify roads which are under the jurisdiction of the Leelanau County Road Commission, the length of each road, and the fact that these roads are normally open to automobile traffic May through October.
